STOCKLAND GREEN HILLS - STAFF PARKING DISPUTE

Since last week, the workers’ fight to restore free and safe staff parking at Stockland Green Hills has gathered momentum.

Over 1,000 workers, tenants, customers, local residents and surrounding businesses have already signed the petition.

But this is only the start! We know there are many more people wanting to sign the petition and Union representatives and activists are busy in the centre trying to reach everyone. We will close the petition soon and present it to Stockland, so don’t miss out. Have your voice heard and contact us if you cannot obtain a copy to sign!  Hundreds of conversations are occurring each day between workers who are finding their voice.

Meantime, parking spaces are vacant throughout the day. This was the rooftop earlier this week in the middle of the day!

Empty staff car parking spaces at Stockland Green Hills

Community feedback and support has been overwhelming. If Stockland wants to be part of the local community, its time they respect that community, its workers, the residents and the local businesses who have all been adversely impacted by the decision to boot staff out of their parking spaces.

And today we wrote to Maitland City Council asking them to intervene and enforce the Development Consent which requires the centre to provide at least 3056 car parking spaces for all users of the centre. And not exclusively for ‘Customers Only’ as the centre has asserted. Check out our letter here.

WHAT NEXT?

We look forward to talking together with all workers in the centre and the community, collecting more signatures on the growing petition and working with Council for a fair and just outcome for the benefit of all and not just Stockland.  The SDA supports all workers who will stand together to secure free, safe parking at Stockland Greenhills.

This decision by the shopping centre owner is not only hurting retail workers but also harms surrounding retailers and the local community, who are suffering from increased traffic, congestion and loss of amenity. If 3,100 parking spaces for all users of the centre is not enough, then you have to ask whether Stockland stuffed up and is punishing workers for its mistake?

Speak to your SDA Union Official, your Union representative in-store or contact our office if you have any questions or wish to share any information. Our number is 1300 SDA HELP (1300 732 4357) or email secretary@sdan.org.au

Most importantly, stand together and be heard, and sign the petition today!
