SDA Members Win Rubbish Row

Published on: Oct 28 2020

SDA members at a national retail chain came together when they faced an issue getting rid of store waste.

Centre management at the retail park instigated a sitewide change which resulted in staff at the Kotara store having their weekly bale press pick up cancelled.

In place of this, staff were tasked with carting the waste across a very busy carpark to dump in communal waste bins.

This was a huge safety concern for staff in general but is also a particularly concerning issue coming into the busy holiday period.

The Union approached the store and escalated this safety issue to the management team; requesting that the rubbish collection was reinstated.

Working with the store’s safety Advisor and Operations team, who also identified this issue was a safety concern, members at the store had a successful outcome.

Staff at the store were delighted when the rubbish removal company resumed collections in store.
