Roster win for Kon
It was the collective voice and support of his union that helped SDA member Kon stand up and fight against a roster change at work recently.
Kon has worked for a supermarket chain for some 17 years.
For the last decade, he has also worked as a local fire fighter. His role sees him tending to house fires, car accidents, bush fires and hazmat incidents, as well as helping out with community events and installing home smoke detectors. When needed, the unsung hero also works tirelessly along with other community service personnel during natural disasters.
Kon’s work roster at the supermarket allows him to be on call from 3pm each day for his other role.
However Kon’s schedule - and hence his availability for his fire fighting duties - was recently under threat when changes to the regular roster were proposed in his department.
Kon didn’t agree with the proposed changes, so he met with his SDA Union Delegate (pictured right, with Kon) to tackle the issue.
Working with the Delegate, and with the support and assistance of his union, Kon was able to fight to keep his current roster in place, enabling him to continue his role as a fire fighter.
Well done Kon for fighting, together with his co-workers, for his rights so that he can continue to serve his community!
