Members Stand Up for Safety at Westfield Kotara

SDA Union members and Officials recently worked together to improve several safety issues arising from construction works at Westfield Kotara.

Members had identified excessive noise and dust issues during trading hours.

Affected members worked together with Officials to detail their complaints. The issues were raised with Westfield. Westfield’s response was completely unsatisfactory so SafeWork NSW was notified. An Inspector attended the site at our request.

We are pleased to report that as a result of active members working together with the support of vigilant Officials a number of improvements have been made including changes to the location of some noise intensive equipment and the installation of a cover over some air conditioning vents in a particular problem store.

These changes have had a positive impact on the noise and dust.

SDA members are passionate about ensuring we work in a healthy and safe environment. If you have any issues regarding this construction work or other workplace health and safety concerns, make your voice heard and speak to your work colleagues and your SDA Delegate! If you cannot solve problems together, contact us and get the right advice and assistance.

Congratulations to those members who stood up for better safety and welfare in their workplace and made their voices heard.
