Kmart and Target Offer Paid Vaccination Leave
Who is eligible for the paid vaccination support?
Permanent (full and part-time) Kmart team members are entitled to access paid leave where they are eligible to be vaccinated and unable to attend a vaccination appointment outside of their rostered work hours. This includes wages and salaried based team members, including those on fixed term or limited tenure contracts, across our stores, DC's and National Office, in Australia and New Zealand.
What is the entitlement?
Up to a maximum of 3 hours paid leave per vaccination. That means a maximum of 6 hours for each permanent team member, given two COVID vaccinations are required.
What does the entitlement intend to cover?
The 3 hours paid time off per vaccination is intended to provide paid leave for team members who are unable to be vaccinated outside of their rostered work hours. The time can be used to travel to and from the vaccination centre/clinic as well as the time taken to receive the vaccine.
What is the payment?
The team member will receive paid leave at the rate of pay applicable to their rostered shift, had they been at work.
What if my vaccination appointment is on a non-working day or outside of my rostered hours?
In this case, paid vaccine support leave will not apply, as you would not have been working at this time.
What happens if the vaccination time exceeds 3 hours?
If the total time absent exceeds 3 hours, the remaining time will be unpaid unless other accrued leave is authorised to be taken, such as annual leave.
Are casual team members entitled to paid time off?
No. Given the nature of casual employment, it is expected that our casual team members will usually have greater flexibility and opportunity to organise a vaccination appointment when they are not rostered to work.
However, where a casual team member is only able to schedule a vaccination time during a period they are currently rostered to work, they should discuss with their manager the option to alter or amend their shift in order to attend the vaccination time.
Are there any eligibility criteria to receive the vaccination?
Yes, respective federal and state governments across Australia and New Zealand have different eligibility rules to access the COVID vaccination. This includes your age or the type of work you perform. The eligibility requirements continue to be updated on a regular basis. Provided you are a permanent team member and are eligible to be vaccinated in the location you reside, you will be able to access vaccination support leave to be vaccinated.
You can check your eligibility for the COVID vaccine by using the web addresses below. There may be differences by country, state, territory or local area.

Does Kmart require me to be vaccinated to work?
No: the decision to be vaccinated is a personal choice and completely voluntary. Kmart does not require team members to be vaccinated in order to work.

Team members will be required to provide reasonable evidence that their absence was for the purpose of receiving a COVID vaccination (for example, proof of attendance at a vaccination appointment).
I've already been vaccinated - can I claim retrospective paid vaccine support leave?
If you accessed other paid leave (eg- annual leave) or took unpaid leave during work time to attend a vaccination appointment, you will be able to have up to 3 hours of paid vaccine support leave applied. Please speak to your manager who will need to raise this request with Kmart payroll.
