Delegate of the Month - Meet Claudia!
Claudia (pictured middle) has worked alongside her team members as a store Delegate representing their working interests for over 3 years. She has been an active member of the Union since 2006.
We asked Claudia about her role as a Delegate. Here’s what she had to say.
Why did you become a delegate?
I became a Delegate to assist our members with any issues they have in the workplace and ensure that they receive their entitlements.
What has been your most notable achievement that you have dealt with as a delegate?
My greatest personal achievement as a Delegate has been that I have been successful in being approachable and making people feel comfortable to ask me assist them in resolving issues.
What campaigns have you been involved with and why are they important?
I was involved in the ‘Protect Penalty Rates Campaign’. This involved handing out flyers at Wyong Station.
I have also campaigned at the local elections for council.
These are all important activities as the outcomes of decisions all affect our lives as employees.
What do you aim to achieve in your workplace in the next 12 months?
I hope to sign up all staff working under the Enterprise Agreement as members of the SDA and continue to resolve issues in the store.
What do you get most out of the role of delegate?
As a delegate, I work with our members to achieve great outcomes. This is what I enjoy most about being an SDA Delegate.
I enjoy being a delegate because I get to help members to receive their entitlements as employees.
