DELEGATE OF THE MONTH: JULIE
Meet Julie from Coles San Remo - she's our Delegate of the Month for January!
Julie has been a Delegate for almost 10 years and an SDA member for 20 years!
We asked Julie about her time as a Delegate and here's what she had to say...
Why did you become a Delegate?
I became a Delegate almost 10 years ago so I could learn more about the SDA and help my fellow team members with questions about their entitlements.
Why is recruitment important?
Recruitment is important so the Union grows and therefore will have a bigger backbone to support our members.
What campaigns have you been involved with and why are they important?
I have contributed to several campaigns by helping to get signatures on petitions for TAKE THE TIME, 100% PAY, PROTECT PENALTY RATES and NO ONE DESERVES A SERVE.
What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?
My most notable achievement is being the person in our store that people feel comfortable to talk to and trust and feel that I’m able to help them with their issues.
What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?
I enjoy being a Delegate as I meet new people and give help to members who have problems in store that can be easily resolved.
What do you aim to achieve in your workplace in the next 12 months?
My goal over the next 12 months is to make our workplace a happier and safer workplace for our members.
What do you get most out of the role as a Delegate?
Being a Delegate allows me to talk to team members to let them know what they are entitled to, whether it be rosters, pay rises, EBA entitlements etc.
