Broken air-con in work?

Could you survive working in the summer in the fast food industry with no air-conditioning?

Workers in a national fast food store were doing just that until a Union Official visited the store and noticed that the air con unit was no longer working. It hadn’t been working for some time according to workers in the store. This was completely unacceptable. The SDA met with management and instructed that this issue must be fixed immediately.

Employers have a responsibility to ensure employees are working in a safe and healthy working environment and to provide protection against heat stress. There are many risks when working in pro longed heat, including skin rashes, dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The State HR Manager contacted the SDA to inform that technicians had fixed the air-conditioning the following day.

Here’s a photo of the now very cool and happy staff!
