A Win For Duty Manager Gemma

Published on: Sep 05 2017

Have you ever been flexed up to a management role when your company needed you?

Did you know you should be paid for any additional duties you take on?

SDA member Gemma had been working as one of three acting ‘Duty Manager’s’ sharing a full-time role.

The Company decided to restructure the position of Duty Manager into a single full-time role. Gemma was offered the role but as it was full time could not accept as she is the sole carer for her children. As Gemma was unable to accept the job, the Company wanted her to continue working but as a service assistant.

Gemma had proof that she had acted as a duty manager (her duty managers name tag). The SDA successfully argued that Gemma be given a role as duty manager part time and be compensated for the money she had lost.

Gemma was happy the Union could step in on her behalf and recover $904 in duty managers pay for her.
