Delegates

Our Delegates are the backbone of the Union. The Union cannot operate effectively without a strong Delegate structure. We achieve this by trying to ensure that there are Delegates in all workplaces where there are SDA members.

Delegates are in store Union representatives who assist members with issues, because they work side-by-side with members they have a great understanding of the workplace and members working in their store. 

Delegates are trained as representatives of the SDA who can negotiate with management over grievances or issues that arise, and provide useful advice to you as members about Enterprise Agreements and your rights at work. They are normally your first point of contact. 

Delegates’ responsibilities include:

  • Promoting Union membership in their store
  • Enforcing Enterprise Agreements and Awards
  • Enforcing members’ statutory entitlements
  • Attending meetings with management and members
  • Resolving members’ problems.

Delegate training and development

The SDA supports our Delegates by committing resources to their development and education, so that they can give you the best, most informed assistance possible.

Delegates have a good working relationship with Union Organisers to ensure that matters are escalated if required and members receive the best possible advice and support.

Get to know your Delegates

Many retail, fast food and warehousing workplaces will have a Union Delegate in-store. Get to know your Delegate because they are there to help you as a Union member. Union members stand together for our rights at work, Delegates play a vital role in our collective efforts.
