The SDA has been arguiong for the introduction of a government funded national paid parental leave scheme for all parents for over 30 years.

We are pleased to support the decision of the Australian Labor Government to introduce and funs a national paid parental leave scheme to working parents who meet the eligibility criteria.

This is good news for parents because it provides increased financial security at a vulnerable time for families, thereby helping to ensure mothers and babies have time to recover from the birth and to bond.

The brochure attached below is to inform parents of their entitlements and to encourage them to claim the Federal Government Parental Leave Pay as early as possible, especially if they want payment to commence immediately after the birth of their baby.

In the meantime, the SDA will continue to argue for an equivalent payment for all those Australian parents who do not satisfy the work test.

Also, the SDA has prepared the Parental Pack, a summary of the government maternity related payments that are available to new parents
